Overview

The Allianz Climate Risk Award is an annual program that connects leading climate risk researchers with the insurance industry, aiming to translate scientific insights into real-world resilience solutions. Launched in 2017, the award celebrates early-career scientists whose work examines the intersection of climate change and extreme weather events. In 2026, the award will mark its 10th anniversary, demonstrating a decade of commitment to advancing climate research. The program has expanded and now operates across three distinct tracks: the Global Award, the Thematic Spotlight focusing on Allianz Trade, and a new Regional Spotlight for Asia. Participants are invited to submit research that enhances the understanding of how climate change influences extreme weather events and explores ways to foster resilience against climate-related risks.

Eligibility

The award is open to university students currently pursuing a PhD degree or a post-doc. Recent PhD graduates are also eligible, provided that their graduation or defense of final research to obtain the title occurred no more than two years before the time of application.

How to enter

1. Prepare the required submission documents, including a non-technical essay, a letter of recommendation, a filled and signed declaration form, a completed application form, and your CV.
2. Send all filled and signed forms and supporting documents to climaterisk-award@allianz.com.

Submission requirements

• A brief (maximum 800 words) non-technical essay outlining the research idea and highlighting central findings.
• A letter of recommendation from the candidate’s academic mentor.
• Filled and signed declaration form.
• Completed application form.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV).
