Animal Hack

Overview

AnimalHack is a student-organized online hackathon established in 2023 by students from Boston, New York, and Seattle areas, aiming to address the lack of international, open hackathons focused on animals. It provides a platform for participants to identify needs, wants, and challenges in human-animal interactions and to develop creative technological solutions. The event welcomes individuals of all ages and technical skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Participants are encouraged to ignite their creativity to innovate and improve human-animal relationships through technology. The hackathon is free to enter and is hosted by Binnovative, a nonprofit organization based in Massachusetts. AnimalHack takes place annually in early fall, with selected participants from each event invited to extend their project abstracts into book chapters for publication through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. This offers a unique opportunity for participants to contribute to published academic proceedings.

What to build

Participants are challenged to ignite creative solutions (hacks) using technology to innovate human-animal relationships, addressing needs, wants, and challenges in interacting with pets, service animals, farm animals, and wild animals.

Eligibility

AnimalHack welcomes anyone of all ages and all technical skills, from limited experience to advanced. Entry is free. It is an international, open hackathon.
