Overview
The Cornell Atkinson Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sustainability provides a distinctive opportunity for early career scholars to contribute to both rigorous academic research and tangible impact within the field of sustainability. This fellowship encourages a collaborative approach, where fellows work with a Cornell faculty mentor and an external partner organization to ensure their research drives real-world change. As part of the Sustainability Leadership Program, fellows join a cohort of emerging scholars who receive specialized training in science communication, strategic career planning, and collaborative leadership. This program is designed to equip them with the skills necessary to translate their knowledge into action. Generously supported by David and Patricia Atkinson, the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability champions transdisciplinary and translational research. Its mission is to foster a sustainable, healthy, and resilient future by facilitating research across all of Cornell's colleges and schools and forging partnerships with governmental, non-governmental, and private entities. This structure directly supports the radical collaboration essential for moving from knowledge to impactful action.

Eligibility
Applicants must have received their Ph.D. in a field relevant to the proposed research by the start of the fellowship, but no earlier than May 1, 2025. The program is not open to Cornell Ph.D. graduates or current Cornell postdocs. Postdocs must maintain primary residency in Ithaca, NY for the duration of the appointment; hybrid and remote appointments are not permitted. While field research, including non-US field research, is common, the fellowship is US-based for employment purposes. Successful applicants requiring visa sponsorship will be referred to Cornell International Services for guidance.
