The "Energize the Future" hackathon is a three-day hybrid event designed to empower young minds (ages 12-19) to tackle real-world renewable energy and sustainability challenges. The overarching theme is "Empowering Young Minds to Build a Sustainable Future," focusing on innovative solutions in solar power, wind energy, smart grids, and green technology. Participants will engage in a process of innovation, prototyping, and presenting their solutions. Teams will select from three specific energy challenges: Smart Energy Grids, Solar for All, and Waste-to-Energy. For Smart Energy Grids, the goal is to design a system for efficient electricity distribution. For Solar for All, teams will develop a cost-effective solar panel solution tailored for low-income communities. The Waste-to-Energy challenge requires proposing an innovative method to convert waste into renewable energy. A key requirement for all proposed solutions is the inclusion of a viable business model. The hackathon encourages both beginners and experienced coders to participate, providing workshops, brainstorming sessions, and mentor guidance to help teams develop their ideas. The event includes an opening ceremony, challenge reveals, workshops, and opportunities to interact with industry experts. Teams will pitch their ideas and provide live demos of their prototypes, with judging based on novelty, user experience, problem-solution fit, potential impact, scalability, market viability, sustainability, pitch quality, demo effectiveness, and team collaboration.
Participants must develop innovative solutions for one of three specific energy challenges: Smart Energy Grids (designing an efficient electricity distribution system), Solar for All (developing a cost-effective solar panel solution for low-income communities), or Waste-to-Energy (proposing an innovative method to convert waste into renewable energy). All solutions must include a viable business model.
The hackathon is open to high school students aged 13 to 19 years old. Participants must form teams of 2 to 4 members. Only specific countries/territories are included.
