The Oak Moon Pavilion

Overview

The Oak Moon Pavilion competition invites participants to create an architectural intervention that fosters a dialogue between the landscape, movement, and mindful living in central Italy. The design should align with the philosophy of Yoga Farm Italy, emphasizing architecture as a natural extension of its surroundings rather than a distinct object within them. The core objective is to design an open-air timber yoga pavilion. The pavilion is envisioned as a space for practice, contemplation, and community, featuring a moon-shaped platform situated beneath the canopy of a historic oak tree. Designs should embrace natural rhythms and create a memorable spatial experience, without prescribing a specific architectural language. Participants are encouraged to develop thoughtful and imaginative interpretations that respond to the site's unique character. Guiding principles for design decisions include simplicity, sustainability, craftsmanship, and respect for the landscape, aiming for harmony between architecture and nature. The overarching ambition is to create a place of belonging where individuals can gather, move, reflect, and reconnect with the natural environment. The intervention should feel as though it has always been a part of the landscape. The competition is open to all individuals and teams (up to 4 members), regardless of professional qualification. All correspondence with organizers and submitted information must be in English. The total prize fund is 8,000 €, distributed across various categories including first, second, and third place, a student award, and a sustainability award.
