VenturePack Challenge (NC State)

Overview

The VenturePack Challenge, formerly known as eGames and originating in 2009, is NC State University's annual flagship startup competition. It is designed to provide comprehensive support including guidance, resources, mentorship, and financial assistance to student entrepreneurs at various stages of their venture development. The competition welcomes a diverse range of ventures, encompassing non-profit organizations, for-profit businesses, and solo-preneur side hustles, regardless of their organizational type, size, or developmental stage. The competition is structured into two distinct tracks to cater to different types of participants. The Student Track is open to all undergraduate and graduate student teams, with a requirement that at least 50% of the team members must be degree-seeking NC State students. The second track, the Daugherty Endowment Track, is specifically designed for officially registered startup companies that have licensed NC State intellectual property within the past three years, provided their licenses are currently active. Participants in both tracks undergo a rigorous judging process across two rounds. Teams are evaluated on various criteria, which include but are not limited to market feasibility and financial strategy. The Daugherty Endowment Track, in particular, has been a significant partner since 2016, focusing on increasing the success of startups based on NC State IP. The funds awarded in this track are intended for critical early-stage business expenses. The VenturePack Challenge offers substantial prize money, with over $100,000 available across the various categories and tracks. The competition culminates in an annual ceremony and showcase, scheduled for April 2026, where finalists present their pitches and winners are announced.

Eligibility

The Student Track is open to all undergraduate and graduate student teams comprised of at least 50% degree-seeking NC State students. The Daugherty Endowment Track is open to officially registered startup companies that have licensed NC State intellectual property in the past three years, with their licenses currently active.

Submission requirements

• Teams in the Student Track must be comprised of at least 50% degree-seeking NC State students.
• Teams in the Daugherty Endowment Track must be officially registered startup companies that have licensed NC State intellectual property in the past three years and have currently active licenses.
• Teams must forgo two rounds of judging across different categories.
