A Level Sociology

This A Level Sociology course is primarily focused on the study of social structures. You will explore key institutions such as the education system, the criminal justice system, and the mass media. Core concepts examined include the development of feminism, social stratification based on class, ethnicity, age, and gender, and the influence of government legislation and social policy.

Curriculum

You will undertake four key areas of study:

1. Year 1
   • Sociological theories, perspectives and methods
   • The design of the research used to obtain the data under consideration, including its strengths and limitations
2. Year 2
   • Socialisation, culture and identity
   • Social differentiation, power and stratification

Careers

Upon completion of the Sociology A Level, students progress to a wide range of careers and further degree programs. Opportunities are available in fields such as media, teaching, policing, and healthcare. There are also extensive roles in social research, youth services, and the criminal justice system.
