The Aquatic Resources Program (AQUA) at St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding water and its role in our environment. Combining perspectives from both natural and social sciences, the program fosters engagement with critical water resource issues, from local to global scales, encompassing both marine and freshwater systems. Students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Aquatic Resources. Curriculum
The first year of the Aquatic Resources program introduces you to the fundamental characteristics of freshwater and ocean ecosystems and the impact of human activities on water resources. You will examine contemporary water-related challenges like climate change, population growth, food production, pollution, and sustainability from both local and international viewpoints. Topics covered include the unique properties of water, ecological principles, management practices, governance, and the study of rivers, wetlands, biodiversity, and ocean resources.
