The program structure offers both BEng (3 years full-time or 4 years with placement) and MEng (4 years full-time or 5 years with placement) qualifications. Students can transfer between courses up to their third year. Teaching involves lectures, seminars, practical laboratory work, and computer-based learning, with approximately 12 hours of contact time per week. The estimated annual workload is 1,200 hours.

The BEng is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for the purposes of partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. The MEng is accredited by IET for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Both pathways are accredited by The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
