This Bachelor of Dermal Sciences program focuses on the fundamental concepts of laser and light-based devices used in dermal practice. You will gain knowledge of basic physics, the properties of light, and its biological effects on tissues. The course also covers processes related to laser and light-based procedures and educates students on relevant Australian legislation and standards applicable to their use. You will develop the skills to assess and control hazards associated with these devices in a professional setting. Upon successful completion, you will be able to understand light properties in relation to dermal procedures, compare various laser and light source systems, and discuss their biological interactions. You will also learn to apply Australian Standards for laser safety, design safe environments, and understand legislative requirements for operating laser and light-based devices in Australia.
