The Bachelor of Environmental Science program integrates academic learning with practical experience, preparing you to actively contribute to environmental protection and conservation efforts. You will build a strong foundation in subjects like biology, ecology, and spatial analysis to address complex environmental challenges. The course explores human impacts, social and cultural factors, and develops your ability to identify effective solutions and communicate them clearly for positive environmental outcomes. Through training in critical and systems thinking, you will be equipped to tackle contemporary environmental issues.
The program requires completion of 240 credit points. The first year focuses on core foundation units, providing a grounding in biology, ecology, earth systems, statistics, study design, and an introduction to environmental issues. After the foundational year, you can choose one or two majors from Biodiversity and Conservation, Water and Landscapes, Spatial and Quantitative Ecology, or Eco-cultural Resource Management. Specialist electives offer hands-on field experience in diverse environments, and three general electives provide further flexibility. The course can be studied on campus, fully online, or through a blended approach, part-time or full-time.
Graduating from this program equips you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a variety of roles in the government, private, or community sectors. Potential career paths include environmental and heritage management, biodiversity conservation, land and water resource management, mine site rehabilitation, nature-based tourism, First Nations land management, wildlife and reserve management, land-care initiatives, teaching, environmental consultancy, and research.
