This certificate program equips you with the essential skills to become a certified health and wellness coach. You will explore core concepts of wellness coaching, the psychology behind behavior change, and understand major health challenges. The curriculum is grounded in Georgetown University's philosophy of 'cura personalis' (care for the whole person), addressing the mind, body, and spirit in coaching practices. The program is ideal for professionals in allied health, healthcare, or those seeking a career transition.
The program consists of eight required courses, including a 30-hour coaching practicum, totaling 11.25 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The curriculum is delivered sequentially over eight months as a cohort. Full attendance at all sessions is mandatory for completion. Courses are typically held over two to three consecutive days once a month.
Upon successful completion of the program, you will be able to facilitate behavior change, guide clients toward optimal health, conduct coaching sessions, and navigate the business aspects of a health coaching practice. Graduates are eligible to apply for certification through the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) and the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
Applicants must meet at least one of the following prerequisites: completion of a degree or licensure in a related field (e.g., nursing, social work, psychology, nutrition, fitness), completion of a related educational/training program (e.g., patient navigation, leadership coaching), or a minimum of one year of employment in a related field. Volunteer experience in a related field will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants should also be open to feedback, self-examination, and willing to challenge their own beliefs. Due to international laws, residents of certain countries may be prohibited from registering for online programs.
