Entry requirements
Prerequisite CoursesCompletion of 57 credits with a minimum grade of C in each course, including Mathematics (3 credits), English Composition (3 credits), Humanities (3 credits), Art (3 credits), Level 100 Social and Behavioral (3 credits), Level 200 Social and Behavioral* (3 credits), Global (3 credits), Respect Diversity* (3 credits), General Biology with Lab (8 credits), General Microbiology (3 credits), Chemistry with Lab and Organic Chemistry (12 credits), and Statistics (3 credits). Science courses must be designated for science majors and include a lab. All science courses must have been completed within the past seven years.
Overall GPAMinimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
Admission is competitive, and meeting minimum criteria does not guarantee acceptance. The program reserves the right to adjust admission criteria. Applicants must meet specific Technical Standards for Admission and Retention. Students with prior felony convictions should consult the dean's office as it may affect program completion or licensure.

How to apply

2. Submit Supplemental ApplicationAfter your initial application is processed, you will receive an email with login details for the StartSBU portal to complete a supplemental application. You can indicate interest in multiple programs here, but must choose one for the initial application.
3. Send Academic CredentialsSubmit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities. Transcripts must include completed or in-progress prerequisite courses. Three letters of recommendation must be submitted online via the portal request form.
4. Meet Additional RequirementsEnsure all prerequisite courses are completed by the application deadline and review the Technical Standards for Admission and Retention.
Accreditation
Upon completion, graduates are eligible to take the National MLS ASCP Board Certification Exam and are New York State License eligible.
