This combined Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program allows current Stony Brook undergraduate students to earn both degrees in a condensed timeframe, potentially saving time and tuition costs compared to pursuing them separately. The program is a collaboration between the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Professional Development (SPD), and the Graduate School. Students can begin graduate coursework as early as their junior year, with full graduate status commencing in their eighth semester. Graduation with both degrees is typically achieved after ten semesters, totaling 150 credits of study. This program prepares students for NYSED teacher certification in Adolescent Education (7-12) in a chosen foreign language concentration: Spanish, Italian, or French. An optional extension for Grades 5-6 certification is also available.
