This course focuses on the Finite Volume Method (FVM) for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). You will learn how to discretize fundamental fluid flow equations, implement them in computer codes, and apply various boundary conditions and source terms. The course covers solving discretized equations, evaluating solution convergence, and verifying results. You will also explore techniques for handling convection-diffusion equations, implementing stable algorithms for pressure-velocity coupling (like SIMPLE), and understanding basic turbulence modeling within the FVM framework. The course involves lectures and practical computer exercises, culminating in a written report. It is designed to provide a thorough understanding of the FVM, enabling you to apply these numerical methods to fluid dynamics problems.
The course covers the discretization of fluid flow equations, including steady-state diffusion, convection-diffusion problems, and unsteady problems. Special attention is given to pressure-velocity coupling algorithms and turbulence modeling.
General entry requirements for Master's level studies apply. Applicants already enrolled in a relevant Chalmers programme may be exempt from some requirements. A foundational course in fluid mechanics is required.
Tuition fees apply to citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland, or those with Swedish residency for reasons other than study, do not pay tuition fees. Exchange students are also exempt.
