This course examines the significant role constitutions play in contemporary political and social life. It explores the historical emergence of the constitution as a higher-order legal document and its increased importance in recent decades. Key topics include the origins of documentary constitutions, the ideology of constitutionalism, constituent power, constitutional rights, democratic principles, judicial review, and global constitutionalism.
