The Bachelor's program in Cultural and Social Studies (CuSo) is an interdisciplinary program offered in both English and German. It aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary social and cultural phenomena by examining their historical contexts, structures, and discourses. The curriculum integrates theoretical and methodological approaches from cultural history, literary studies, linguistics, and comparative social sciences. Students will deepen their knowledge in specialized thematic areas: 'EUROPE/S – History, Culture, Politics', 'MEDIA – Image, Text and Language', and 'DIFFERENCE – Migration, Gender and Diversity'. This program is designed for students from non-German speaking backgrounds who wish to gradually learn German, as well as for those proficient in both languages seeking an international study environment. A key requirement is the acquisition or proof of competence in a third language.
The Bachelor's program consists of several modules designed to build foundational knowledge, explore thematic specializations, develop methodological skills, enhance language proficiency, and gain practical experience.
This Bachelor's degree equips graduates with the interdisciplinary knowledge, multilingualism, and intercultural competencies needed for diverse career paths in Germany and internationally. The program prepares students for both further academic study and direct entry into the job market.
Applicants who did not obtain their university entrance qualification in Germany must reach at least B2 level in German during their studies. Students are strongly advised to reach C1 level if they plan to continue their studies in Germany. Proficiency in a third language is also required. For applicants from non-German speaking countries, foreign qualifications are reviewed by uni-assist e.V.
Students only pay a semester contribution fee per semester, which covers student services and the public transport ticket. This fee is currently €330 per semester.
