The Department of Economics and Finance (DEF) was established in 2013 with the aim of fostering high-quality research with a significant policy impact. It provides a rich intellectual environment for both scholars and students, promoting active participation in the international academic community. Department members are recognized for their publications in leading economic journals and their expertise across various research fields, including microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, labor and education economics, public finance, monetary economics, development economics, and industrial economics. Many faculty members also contribute as columnists for major financial newspapers and advise Italian governmental bodies at national and regional levels. They also bring valuable experience from international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the European Fiscal Board.
