Department of Public Safety

The University of Central Oklahoma's Department of Public Safety is dedicated to serving, supporting, and protecting the campus community. It operates as a comprehensive police department, commissioned by the State of Oklahoma, City of Edmond, and the University itself to provide 24/7 protection. Officers are state-certified and have the authority to enforce laws, issue citations, make arrests, and conduct investigations on campus and adjacent city streets. The department also includes an Emergency Management Unit, which focuses on emergency preparedness training and guidance for the UCO campus. UCO is a pioneer in this field within Oklahoma, being the first university to hire a full-time emergency management coordinator and the only one with an approved Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Resistant University grant.
