Lindenwood University offers an "Early Access" option for students in eligible undergraduate programs to begin their Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) while completing their bachelor's degree. This program allows students with a strong academic record to get a head start on their graduate studies, potentially reducing the overall time and cost to earn their master's degree. Students can take up to nine graduate credit hours that will count towards their master's degree, but not their bachelor's degree. The program requires students to maintain a minimum GPA and meet specific enrollment criteria during their undergraduate senior year.
Entry requirements
Undergraduate StudentCompleted a minimum of 84 undergraduate hours.
GPAMinimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0.
Major GPAMinimum cumulative major GPA of 3.0.
Graduate GPAMust maintain a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0 once enrolled in graduate courses.
Undergraduate DegreeMust be closely related to the certification area.
Content AssessmentMust pass a content assessment in the chosen certification area.
Students must be enrolled in at least 12 undergraduate hours each semester they take graduate credits under this option. Courses taken at the undergraduate level cannot be retaken for graduate credit. The graduate degree pursued cannot be the same field as the student’s undergraduate degree.
Fees
Tuition (international)Up to 9 credit hours of graduate coursework may be included in undergraduate full-time tuition, meaning up to three graduate courses can be taken without additional tuition charges. Book expenses and lab fees for EDU courses are at the student's expense.
Tuition (home)Included in undergraduate full-time tuition (up to 9 credit hours).
Living—
Students may be charged an overload fee if they exceed 18 combined credit hours (undergraduate + graduate) in a semester without prior approval. Financial aid is not affected as long as the student maintains 12 undergraduate hours.
How to apply
1. Obtain Application FormGet the "Application to the Early Access to the MAT Program" form from the College of Education and Human Services.
2. Submit ApplicationSubmit the completed form to the College of Education and Human Services.
3. Academic ReviewYour academic records will be reviewed by a committee. If you meet the requirements, your paperwork will be forwarded to the vice president for academic affairs for approval.
4. NotificationYou will be notified of your status and your assigned education advisor via email.
5. Enrollment PlanningMeet with your advisor to complete an enrollment form and create a plan for completing the MAT after your undergraduate degree is conferred.
6. Graduate Program ApplicationComplete the separate process of applying to the Lindenwood Graduate Program after your undergraduate degree is conferred.
