The Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Diploma in Inclusive Education program at Northern Lights College prepares you to work with children from birth to 12 years old and their families. You will gain the skills to create safe, inclusive, and engaging environments that respond to the diverse needs and interests of all children. The program emphasizes reflective and collaborative practices to foster children's development and understanding of the world. NLC offers flexible delivery methods, including online, on-campus, and Work Integrated Learning (WIL), allowing you to study from your home community. This program can prepare you to apply for BC Early Childhood Educator Registry certification, including Assistant, General, and Special Needs post-basic certifications.
Upon graduation and with BC ECE Registry certification, you can pursue roles such as an educator, supervisor, manager, director, or administrator in early care and learning programs. With further education, career options can expand to include child development counsellor, consultant, family resource centre coordinator, child care resource and referral consultant, licensing officer, researcher, or instructor.
Students who do not meet the direct English requirements must complete the NLC Writing Assessment for appropriate course placement. A Schedule B Criminal Record Check (works with Children) is required before registering in courses. International students are accepted at the Dawson Creek or Fort St. John campuses for on-campus study.
Fees are estimates for a full-time course load. Books, instruments, supplies, uniforms, and third-party fees are additional. International students also pay an additional medical insurance fee.
BC Early Childhood Educator Registry certification
Applicants need a minimum "C" grade in English 12 (or equivalent) and must complete a Schedule B Criminal Record Check before registering in courses. International students also need to meet specific English Language Proficiency requirements outlined in Appendix A.
For international students, the estimated tuition for Year 1 is $14,012.93 and for Year 2 is $15,188.21. These fees are estimates for a full-time course load and do not include additional costs like books, supplies, or medical insurance.
The program consists of 62 credits, totaling a minimum of 1370 hours, and is typically completed over two years (four semesters) with a minimum of 15 credits per semester. Part-time study options are available for online and on-campus modes.
