Study Economics at Cardiff University to develop a strong understanding of how economic principles apply to real-world challenges. You will learn to use advanced mathematical and statistical tools to analyze the behavior of individuals, firms, markets, and countries, enabling you to explain and predict responses to policies or market changes. Curriculum
This is a three-year full-time program. Each academic year consists of six 20-credit modules. The modules listed are indicative and may be reviewed for the 2026/2027 academic year, with final modules confirmed by September 2026. Year one focuses on foundational concepts.

Entry requirements
A-levelAAB-BBB, including Maths. For applicants with grade A in Extended/International Project Qualification, the offer is typically one grade lower.
International Baccalaureate34-31 overall or 666-665 in 3 HL subjects, including grade 5 in HL Maths.
Welsh BaccalaureateThe qualification will be accepted in lieu of one A-level (at the grades listed above), excluding any specified subjects. From September 2023, the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (level 3) replaces the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate.
BTECDD-DM in a BTEC Diploma in Business and grade B in A-level Maths.
GCSE English LanguageGrade C/4
IELTS (academic)6.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each subskill.
TOEFL iBT90 overall, with minimums of 17 (writing), 17 (listening), 18 (reading), and 20 (speaking).
PTE Academic69 overall, with a minimum of 59 in all communicative skills.
Trinity ISE II/IIIII: at least two Distinctions and two Merits. III: at least a Pass in all components.
GCSE English language or equivalent is required. If you require a Student visa, ensure your language qualification complies with UKVI requirements. Critical Thinking, General Studies, Citizenship Studies, or similar equivalent subjects are not accepted. BTEC and A-level combinations are considered. Specific requirements for international qualifications can be found in the equivalences guide. You are not required to complete a DBS check. However, if subject to licence conditions or monitoring restrictions that could affect your studies, you must disclose your criminal record.
