This online Master of Arts (MA) in English offers a highly flexible approach to postgraduate study, allowing you to tailor your curriculum to your specific interests and career goals. You can choose from a wide array of specialist 'pods' (modules) created by subject experts to build a unique degree programme. While a specialist pathway requires completing at least two-thirds of your studies within that area, you don't need to commit from the outset, and your Personal Advisor will guide you through your choices.
Curriculum
The MA in English is structured across three phases, each worth 60 credits. In each phase, you will select six 'pods' (modules) from a broad catalogue. These pods can be studied in any order and at your own pace. At the end of each phase, you will submit a portfolio of work based on your selected pods. Upon completion of all three phases, you will be awarded an MA in English. Alternatively, you can exit with a Postgraduate Certificate after phase one or a Postgraduate Diploma after phase two. A key feature is the option to undertake a large research project (a 'hexapod') in your second or third phase, equivalent to six pods, which can be a traditional dissertation, practice-based project, or other research output. If you choose the hexapod, you will study 12 pods and the hexapod; otherwise, you will complete 18 pods.
