Trinity College Dublin offers a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Postgraduate Diploma (P.Grad.Dip.) in Environmental Sciences. This program, the first of its kind in Ireland, is designed for graduates with diverse academic backgrounds interested in environmental issues. It aims to foster a deep understanding of environmental science, develop skills for addressing current environmental challenges, and equip students with the expertise to conduct independent research. The course structure involves a series of taught modules covering various environmental themes, followed by a five-month research project. For those opting for the Postgraduate Diploma, the program consists of the taught modules only. The curriculum emphasizes gaining practical expertise and contributing to global sustainability efforts. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in environmental protection, consultancy, research, and academia.
Curriculum
The M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences is a full-time, one-year program comprising 90 ECTS, with 60 ECTS for the taught component and 30 ECTS for the research dissertation. Taught modules are delivered in intensive two to three-week blocks, allowing for focused study. The program includes lectures, seminars, practical laboratory and desk-based work, fieldwork, and independent study. The taught component runs from September to May, followed by a research project from June to September.
