The General Surgery Residency Program at UPMC in Central Pa. is a five-year program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Entry requirements
Medical School GraduationGraduated from a medical school recognized by the State Board of Medicine for Pennsylvania within the past five years.
USMLE ExamsPassed USMLE exams on the first attempt.
COMLEX ExamsPassed COMLEX exam on the first attempt.
Medical ExperienceAt least one year of medical experience in the United States (research experience does not count).
ECFMG CertificationRegistered and certified by ECFMG and present a copy of a valid certificate.
Pennsylvania Training LicenseMust qualify for a Pennsylvania training license.

High ethical and professional standards, along with adequate communication skills, are also necessary.

How to apply
1. Meet Eligibility RequirementsEnsure you have graduated from a recognized medical school within the last five years, passed USMLE/COMLEX exams on the first attempt, possess at least one year of US medical experience (excluding research), and hold valid ECFMG certification. You must also qualify for a Pennsylvania training license.
2. Submit Application via ERASAll applications must be submitted exclusively through ERAS. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
3. Provide Letters of RecommendationSubmit three letters of recommendation as part of your application.
4. Attend InterviewSelected candidates will be invited for an interview with the program faculty. Interviews typically begin in October.
