The Graduate Certificate in Teaching Religious Education (GCTRE) at Australian Lutheran College is designed to equip graduates with the essential knowledge and skills to teach Religious Education and Christian Studies. This program has a specific focus on the worldview and Christian Studies Curriculum Framework used in Lutheran schools and early childhood services. It provides a strong foundation in the disciplines, principles, practices, and pedagogy necessary for effective religious education instruction. This program is available for domestic students only and can be completed full-time in 6 months or part-time over up to 2 years.
The GCTRE is equivalent to one full-time semester and requires the completion of four units. While students normally complete these units in order, scheduling can be adjusted to fit elective spaces in your initial teaching award. It does not need to be completed by the end of your initial teaching degree.
Graduates of this program are prepared to teach Religious Education and Christian Studies, particularly within the context of Lutheran schools and early childhood services. The skills and knowledge gained are directly applicable to enhancing teaching practice in faith-based educational settings.
