The Graduate Diploma in Art is a 12-month, studio-based programme designed for graduates with creative industry experience or those from other fields who wish to develop skills in fine art. This programme aims to prepare you for postgraduate study, such as an MA or MFA in Art or Curating, by helping you develop a critical understanding of your artistic practice within contemporary contexts. Successful completion guarantees a place on an MA/MFA Art course at Goldsmiths. The course is suitable for students who may not have traditional academic qualifications for postgraduate study, or for those seeking to further develop their fine art work. It also supports international students aiming to improve their English language skills. Goldsmiths is highly regarded globally, ranked 4th in the UK and top 25 worldwide for Art by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.
The programme includes a specialised series of critical studies lectures and seminars, with access to the MFA lecture programme. You will engage in studio practice and critical studies, with an option to develop an Artists' Text Portfolio or take an English language module.
The Graduate Diploma in Art serves as a pathway to postgraduate Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programmes at Goldsmiths. It aims to equip students with the critical understanding and practical skills necessary for a successful career in the contemporary art world.
This programme is intended for students who may not possess traditional academic qualifications for postgraduate study or who wish to further develop their fine art work. International students may also use this programme to improve their English language skills.
