History and European Languages MA (Hons)

This program combines the study of social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period to the present day with proficiency in two European languages, French and Spanish. You will explore historical topics focusing on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India. The course emphasizes practical historical research, using primary sources from the outset and analyzing diverse historical evidence including written documents, maps, images, films, art, and music. You will critically examine key historical debates and understand how historians construct narratives and contribute to public life, media, and the heritage industry. The program offers unique opportunities to work with original documents through the University's Archives, Records Management, and Museum Services, developing skills in areas like palaeography and research project planning. Alongside history, you will engage with language modules each year, starting as a beginner or continuing at an intensive level if you have prior experience. This four-year Master of Arts (Honours) degree provides a comprehensive understanding of historical periods and develops advanced language skills. You will have the option to study abroad, further enriching your academic and cultural experience. The course is based at the Dundee City Campus.
