Study History at Laurentian University to explore the past and gain skills applicable to numerous careers. History is the study of past events, using historical materials like documents, testimonies, and artifacts to understand and explain what happened. This program will teach you to think critically like a historian, interpreting and assessing data to understand social movements, environmental changes, and political issues. You will develop your own historical research skills, enabling you to analyze the past's influence on the present and share your insights with others. The program offers a choice between North American (including Canadian) and European history streams, with courses also available on other regions and themes. Learning is facilitated through on-campus, online, and hybrid course formats.
Curriculum
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History requires 120 credits. Students will build a foundation in historical methods and explore various historical periods and themes. The program also includes requirements for linguistic awareness, scientific literacy, and Indigenous content. Students can pursue a Major in History or a Specialization, with a Minor or second Major also possible.
