History with Spanish MA (Hons)

This program combines the study of social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period to the present day with the development of Spanish language skills. You will explore historical themes across the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India, with a strong emphasis on using primary sources from the outset of your studies. The curriculum encourages critical engagement with historical debates and an understanding of how historical narratives are constructed and disseminated. Throughout the program, you will have the opportunity to work with original documents from the University's Archives, Records Management, and Museum Services, enhancing your research abilities in areas such as palaeography and database analysis. Alongside historical studies, you will complete one Spanish language module each semester, catering to both beginners and those with prior knowledge at an intensive level. This degree provides a comprehensive approach to understanding the past while simultaneously building proficiency in Spanish language and culture, preparing students for diverse career paths.
