MA Applied Theatre and Education

Applied Theatre is a dynamic field that uses drama and theatre practices in non-traditional settings, often focusing on marginalized communities to address political, educational, and social issues. This Master's program critically and practically explores how theatre can be a transformative force for social change within communities. You'll engage with practices involving young people in care, well-being initiatives, prison settings, schools, older adult groups, refugees, and individuals with disabilities. This unique course is delivered in partnership with Derby Theatre, a professional producing theatre, and includes specialized Education modules. You will select from a range of modules designed to deepen your understanding of various contexts, enhance emotional intelligence, prepare for future challenges, and drive educational innovation. The program emphasizes reflexivity, understanding your positionality, developing practical skills, exchanging knowledge, and evaluating innovations to improve education policy and practice.
