This Master's program offers a research-led and interdisciplinary approach to media and communications, aiming to equip you with the tools to understand, analyze, and engage with the complex, mediated world we inhabit. You will explore how digital technologies have transformed our experiences, from social interactions and political engagement to our daily rituals and sense of self. The course challenges assumptions and encourages critical thinking through theoretical frameworks and empirical work, examining the interplay of media with politics, economics, culture, technology, and identity. You'll have the opportunity to engage with current issues, participate in workshops, screenings, and cultural trips, and develop a holistic understanding of media's role in society. The program also offers a practical option in areas like journalism, campaigns, or design, and culminates in a substantial dissertation on a topic of your choice.
The MA Media and Communications program is structured around compulsory core modules and a wide range of optional modules, allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests. Assessment is primarily through coursework essays, written projects, and a dissertation. Practical modules may include audiovisual components.
Consideration may also be given to applicants with relevant professional experience who can demonstrate an ability to work at a postgraduate level.
