The Master of Architecture (MArch) is a professionally accredited graduate degree program at UBC. This demanding, three-year course of study is primarily coursework-based, integrating design studios with studies in architectural history and theory, technical and material systems, and representation methods. While the curriculum is rigorous, students have opportunities to develop their individual interests through specialized design studios, elective courses, and a significant Graduation Project. The program is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in any discipline, though those with a pre-professional architecture degree may be considered for advanced placement.
Entry requirements
Undergraduate DegreeA four-year Bachelor's degree from UBC or equivalent in any discipline (e.g., BA, BSc, BFA, BASc). Minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC). Specific program may have higher requirements. Meeting minimums does not guarantee admission.

1. Check EligibilityReview the minimum academic requirements (B+ average or equivalent) and specific program prerequisites. For international applicants, ensure your previous degree is equivalent to a UBC four-year Bachelor's degree. Submit required English language proficiency test scores (IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 100) taken within the last 24 months. The GRE is optional.
2. Prepare Application DocumentsGather transcripts from all past post-secondary institutions. Prepare a statement of interest. Arrange for three letters of reference (academic or professional). Note that this is a course-based program and does not require you to secure a thesis supervisor before applying.
3. Apply OnlineComplete the online application form and pay the application fee. For Permanent Residents of Canada, provide a photocopy of your Permanent Resident card.
