The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in English program at Stony Brook University is designed for individuals seeking New York State certification to teach English in secondary schools (grades 7-12). All degree requirements must be completed within five (5) years from the semester date of admission as a matriculated student.

A grade of B or better in all pedagogy and foundation courses and an overall GPA of 3.0 or better in all graduate coursework attempted are required for degree completion.
