The Master of Data Science program is designed to equip students with essential skills for a career in the growing field of data science. It focuses on data science, statistical analysis, and machine learning, utilizing popular tools like Python, R, SQL, and cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and Apache Spark. The curriculum includes designing and implementing database solutions and analyzing complex datasets to support decision-making. Students can choose to focus on specializations like artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, sport analytics, big data, and cloud computing. The program offers practical experience through industry projects or a thesis, and opportunities for a work placement. The degree is recognized at AQF Level 9 (Masters Degree) and can be completed in two years full-time, with an option to fast-track to 1.5 years.
Indicative fees are based on 2026. Fees depend on the type of place, course, eligibility, and financial support. 120 credit points represent full-time study for one year. Domestic students may be eligible for Postgraduate Fee Support (up to 25% reduction) or have their fees deferred with FEE-HELP. La Trobe alumni may be eligible for additional fee reductions.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9 - Masters Degree.
