The Master of Music (MMus) Music Design pathway at HKU offers a full-time, English and Dutch-taught program focused on developing your professional and artistic vision within music technology. You'll explore your position in the field, engaging with technology development, multidisciplinary collaboration, the context of music creation, design and production processes, practice-based research, and target audiences. The program encourages you to develop a personalized study plan tailored to your objectives, which are reviewed and adjusted each semester. You'll benefit from a diverse community of national and international students and the extensive network of lecturers and alumni.
Curriculum
During your studies, you will work on a personalized study plan, defining your objectives and the concrete actions you will take each semester, including projects, workshops, and conferences. The program offers four pathways: Music Technology, Music Production, Sound Design, and Composition, though students are often active across multiple areas.

Entry requirements
Bachelor's DegreeA bachelor's degree in a relevant field, professional experience at a comparable level, or equivalent international training is required. Exceptional talent and a strong track record may allow admission without a formal Bachelor of Music.
Proficiency in specific DAWs is not required for admission, but demonstrating successful creation of musical work with available technological means and explaining creative decisions is key. While not mandatory, proficiency in any DAW is considered a plus.
Fees

How to apply
1. Apply via StudielinkRegister for the Master of Music programme through Studielink using your DigiD. You will then receive an assignment and upload instructions for your application documents.
2. Submit Admission DocumentsUpload your motivation letter, study plan, curriculum vitae, and portfolio by the specified deadline. This constitutes the first round of selection.
3. Attend Online InterviewIf you pass the first round, you will be invited for an online interview with the admissions committee to discuss your application documents and motivation.
4. Receive NotificationYou will be notified of the admission decision via email within three weeks of your interview.
