The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is an internationally recognised research-focused Master's degree. It is designed to help you develop advanced skills in conducting independent and sustained research. You will complete a thesis of up to 50,000 words, or a practice-based equivalent, demonstrating a critical application of specialist knowledge and making an original contribution to your field of study. Each candidate undertakes research on a chosen topic under the guidance of an experienced academic supervisor. The MPhil is accredited at Level 9 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as a Masters Degree by Research. Some research areas may have different fee structures, and these will require application for a specific course code.
Entry requirements
Four-year Bachelor's degreeCompleted within the last ten years with a weighted average mark of 70% or above (H2A or above) for the Honours year, in a relevant discipline.
Meeting minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer, as admission is competitive and places are limited. In some cases, applicants who do not meet the normal academic entry requirements may be considered for admission on equity or alternative grounds if they can demonstrate prior research and learning outcomes and the capacity to successfully complete the degree. The university must also be able to provide appropriate facilities, resources, and supervision for the chosen research area.
