Master of Public Health

This Master of Public Health program equips you to address critical public health issues, particularly those relevant to tropical Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. You will gain an in-depth understanding of challenges facing vulnerable communities and learn to develop strategies for detecting, preventing, and controlling diseases. The curriculum covers key areas like tropical public health, public health management, epidemiology, biostatistics, and communicable disease control, preparing you for ethical and evidence-based practice in contemporary public health settings. The course is designed in accordance with the standards set by the Council of Academic Public Health Institutions in Australia (CAPHIA), ensuring alignment with industry expectations.

Curriculum

The Master of Public Health degree includes five core subjects and offers a range of elective subjects to tailor your study. You can also choose to complete a major in Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine or undertake a research project. The core subjects are: Tropical Public Health; Public Health Management, Leadership, Planning and Policy; Epidemiology for Public Health; Biostatistics for Public Health; and Communicable Disease Control. Electives cover topics such as infection prevention and control, human parasitology, medical entomology, social science in public health, health promotion, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, travel medicine, environmental health, and health economics. A research project option allows for an in-depth investigation and dissertation.
