The Master of Teaching (Secondary) program is designed for university graduates who hold a degree in a non-teaching field and aspire to become secondary school teachers (Years 7 to 12). Upon successful completion, you will earn a formal qualification that makes you eligible to teach specialised subject areas to students aged 13 to 18 in public, religious, and private schools. This program aims to produce highly skilled teachers who understand classroom diversity and have strong connections with school communities. You will develop practical teaching skills through immersive professional experience programs, which begin within the first month of the course and continue through weekly blocks. The program requires completion of 60 days of professional experience, with an option to undertake one placement in a rural or remote area of NSW. Throughout your studies, you will explore key concepts of teaching and learning, enhancing your professional capabilities in your chosen teaching specialisations.

Entry requirements
Undergraduate degreeEquivalent to a three-year Australian bachelor's degree with a minimum average mark of 65%. The degree must meet the requirements of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for teaching in secondary schools. NESA requirements must be assessed by the School of Education prior to application.

An IELTS score is required if your degree was not completed in English in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, or the Republic of Ireland. Students who have studied overseas may need to meet additional requirements set by the NSW Education Standards Authority to qualify as teachers in NSW. All students completing a NSW teacher education course must pass approved literacy and numeracy tests prior to commencing their Professional Experience. New enrolling students must complete a Working with Children Check and obtain clearance before attending Professional Experience.
