The Master's Programme in Interaction Design focuses on the relationship between user behavior and the design of products and services. You will learn to integrate cognitive, emotional, and physical aspects into cohesive design solutions, balancing societal needs, human understanding, and technological advancements. The program is structured around project-based learning, often in collaboration with external partners, providing hands-on experience in addressing real-world challenges through design.
The program is delivered through a project-based learning approach, with courses typically structured in 5, 10, or 20-week blocks. Studio courses focus on specific skills and their practical application. Throughout the program, you will engage in applied and core design projects, often in collaboration with external partners and industry professionals. The second year includes an optional internship or a degree project.

A strong portfolio and artistic talent are essential for admission. Selection is based on portfolio, interviews, and/or creative assignments.

You need at least 180 ECTS (or equivalent) from an internationally recognized university, with a minimum of 60 ECTS in Design. A strong portfolio and artistic talent are essential, with selection based on portfolio, interviews, and/or creative assignments. Proof of English proficiency, equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English 6, is also required.
Applications are submitted through the national online application service (universityadmissions.se/intl/start). Following this, you must submit your portfolio directly to Umeå Institute of Design according to their specific instructions.
