Welcome to the Institute for Construction and Agricultural Machinery (IBL) at TH Köln, a place where tradition meets innovation in engineering education and research. For over 75 years, we have been dedicated to educating engineers passionate about agricultural and construction machinery. Starting in the winter semester of 2026/2027, our mechanical engineering programs have been strategically realigned. Our program evolves from a niche offering to a robust degree with specialized expert knowledge. This enhancement positions it as a core specialization within the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, providing graduates with the best of both worlds: the solid, broad foundation of a classic mechanical engineering degree combined with specialized expertise in construction and agricultural machinery. This offers maximum flexibility with "Mechanical Engineering" on the certificate, complemented by expert know-how, making our graduates highly competitive in the job market. Beyond this specialized bachelor's program, the IBL is actively involved in numerous research projects in construction machinery technology and agricultural machinery technology. Students have the opportunity to contribute to these research efforts through project and thesis work, or by working as student or research assistants.
