This course provides an introduction to mechatronics, focusing on the integration of sensors, actuators, and computer systems with mechanical systems. You will learn about the fundamental principles and applications of common sensors and actuators, exploring the underlying physics, including electro-physics and electrical circuits. The course also covers signal processing, addressing both practical and theoretical aspects. It's designed to equip students with basic knowledge to analyze electric and digital circuits, understand signal processing techniques, and explore the functionality of various sensors and actuators. The curriculum includes lectures, tutorials, laboratory exercises, and assignments. The aim is to provide a solid foundation in mechatronics, enabling students to understand and design basic microcontroller-based systems and select appropriate components for mechatronic applications. Key topics include passive and active electrical components, digital components, signal sampling, AD/DA converters, filtering, operational amplifiers, strain gauges, Wheatstone bridges, electromechanical actuators (like PMDC motors), and microcontroller system architecture.
