The Minor in Writing is designed for students who want to significantly improve their English language proficiency and writing skills. It is particularly beneficial for those who anticipate needing strong writing abilities in their future careers, such as aspiring lawyers, teachers, executives, or public relations professionals. It also suits students aiming for careers as published authors or those planning to pursue advanced degrees that require extensive written work like theses or dissertations. The program focuses on developing your ability to convey ideas with authority, purpose, and skill.
To complete the Minor in Writing, students must earn 18 credits in advanced writing, language, and rhetoric courses. These are chosen in consultation with the program advisor. A minor contract must be finalized by the start of the first semester of your junior year. All students must complete the Core Writing Sequence before beginning advanced writing courses, ideally by the end of their fourth semester.
This minor equips you with advanced writing skills applicable to a wide range of professions. It can prepare you for roles where clear and persuasive communication is essential.
