The MA by Research in Music allows you to undertake a focused research project that contributes originally to the field of music. This can be in historical, analytical, philosophical, critical, or empirical areas. You will be supported by a supervisory committee, including a principal supervisor and a personal tutor, with regular meetings and opportunities to present your work in seminars.
Graduates develop mastery in their field and are equipped to make original contributions to music scholarship. The independent learning nature of the MA by Research prepares students for diverse career paths.
Applicants must submit a research proposal including research questions, methodology, and a literature review. Samples of written work are also required. Admission is based on academic performance and the originality/feasibility of the research proposal.
