The STLR (Student Transformative Learning Record) program at the University of Central Oklahoma offers students a structured way to develop and demonstrate growth in key areas aligned with the university's Central Six Tenets. Through participation in STLR-tagged activities, students can earn credit at three levels: Exposure, Integration, and Transformation. This program is designed to recognize and reward students for their learning journey and personal development beyond traditional academic coursework.
Curriculum
The STLR program is not a traditional curriculum but a framework for recognizing student development. Students engage with STLR-tagged activities and provide evidence of their learning and growth. The program is divided into three levels, each representing a different stage of development in relation to the Central Six Tenets.
- Level 1: Exposure
- Awareness of perspectives and understanding of tenets
- Level 2: Integration
- Questioning, planning, and expanding existing understandings
- Level 3: Transformation
- Profound growth, major shift in values, beliefs, or perspectives
Careers
The STLR program aims to enhance students' personal and professional development by fostering growth in key competencies. The evidence of this growth, tracked through the STLR Snapshot dashboard, can be valuable for career planning and showcasing skills to potential employers.

While STLR itself does not have separate tuition or fees, participating students must be enrolled in courses or activities that are STLR-tagged. Standard university tuition and fees apply based on credit hours and residency status. International students are required to pay a semester International Student Maintenance Fee ($80 Summer, $200 Spring/Fall) and a Student Insurance Fee.
How to apply
1. Participate in STLR-tagged activitiesEngage in courses, events, projects, or other university activities that are tagged with STLR. These activities are designed to help you develop in the Central Six Tenets.
2. Provide Evidence of GrowthWork with STLR-trained faculty or staff to demonstrate your learning and growth within the STLR tenets. This is an evidence-based process, focusing on the impact of the experience on you.
3. Track Your ProgressMonitor your earned STLR credits and levels via your STLR Snapshot online dashboard. Credits may take up to 24 hours to appear after being awarded in Desire2Learn (D2L).
4. Achieve Transformation LevelTo be eligible for STLR graduation cords, you must receive at least one 'Transformation' rating from a STLR-trained faculty or staff member in any of the five STLR-tracked tenets.
5. Apply for GraduationEnsure you have formally applied for graduation through the appropriate undergraduate or graduate application process. Eligibility for graduation is a prerequisite for receiving cords.
6. Receive Graduation CordsIf eligible, the STLR Office will contact you approximately six weeks before graduation via email. You will then be informed on how to pick up your free STLR graduation cord(s).
