Entry requirements
Undergraduate DegreeA minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale is required for matriculated graduate programs. If your previous institution uses a Pass/Credit system for the first year, these grades will be considered a 'C' for GPA admission purposes unless actual grades are provided. For non-matriculated graduate student status, a GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale is required.
Official transcripts must be from the issuing institution and include an official seal/stamp and signature. If your transcript is not in English, it must be translated and/or evaluated by a credential evaluation service that is a member of NACES.org. World Education Services (WES) is a commonly accepted service. Your transcript must also clearly state that your degree has been conferred.
Fees
Tuition (international)Tuition for non-New York State residents (international students) is $34,560.00 per year. This does not include other mandatory fees.
Tuition (home)Tuition for New York State residents is $23,235.00 per year. This does not include other mandatory fees.

Mandatory fees include a Medical Student Activity Fee ($45.00), Total Comprehensive Fee ($1,411.01), Medical Student Health Insurance ($2,389.74 per semester for domestic students; international student rates may vary), and Clinical Skills Fee ($650.00). These rates are for the Professional Program of Medicine for Fall 2025 and are subject to change. International students requiring immigration documents may have priority processing after admission.
How to apply
1. Create an Online Application AccountVisit the online application portal to create an account. You can save your progress and return to your application as needed before submitting.
2. Complete the Online ApplicationFill out all required sections of the online application form. You can update your information (except your name, email, and date of birth) after submission by logging into your account.
3. Pay the Application FeeA non-refundable application fee is required. Matriculated programs cost $100, and non-matriculated programs cost $25. Payment is typically made by credit card during the online submission process.
4. Submit Supporting DocumentsUpload all required documents directly into your application portal. This typically includes a personal statement and official transcripts. Some programs may require letters of recommendation, test scores, or a resume.
5. Send Official TranscriptsOfficial transcripts should be sent electronically directly from the issuing institution to spd_transcripts@stonybrook.edu. Do not send transcripts to the Graduate School or Undergraduate Admissions.
6. Electronic Test ScoresIf required, send electronic test scores to Stony Brook University, Code 2548.
7. Track Application StatusLog back into your online application account to monitor the status of your application and check if all supporting documents have been received.
