English proficiency scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to UCSB Office of Admissions. Scores are valid for two years from the exam date. For TOEFL/IELTS, only the highest composite score from a single sitting is accepted; UC does not accept MyBest TOEFL or IELTS One Skill Retake.

You will need a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, a TOEFL iBT score of 80 (taken before Jan 2026) or 4.5 (taken Jan 2026 or later), or a Duolingo English Test score of 115. ACT ELA, SAT Writing and Language, AP English, IB English, or a transferable English composition course with a grade of 'C' or better can also satisfy this requirement.
