The Workforce Readiness program at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is designed to help students who are unsure about their major or future career path. This program focuses on developing essential skills that employers and graduate schools value, in addition to academic knowledge. By participating in STLR (Sponsored, Teacher-Assumed, Learner-Responsibly) experiences, students can identify their strengths, explore their passions, and build a portfolio of skills through the STLR Snapshot dashboard. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical skills needed for career success. A study by Leadership IQ highlighted that new hires often lack key soft skills despite having strong technical knowledge. Workforce Readiness at UCO addresses this by developing students in areas like critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the job market and further academic pursuits.
The Workforce Readiness program helps students develop skills sought by employers and graduate schools. Utilizing the STLR Snapshot dashboard and career coaching, students can effectively showcase their strengths and prepare for job applications and interviews.
