The Young Scholars Program is an annual initiative by Georgetown University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, in collaboration with KID Museum. This program is designed for elementary school students and aims to foster an early interest and confidence in science through hands-on STEM and cancer research experiences. The goal is to provide engaging activities that make science enjoyable and accessible, potentially inspiring future careers in science and medicine, particularly for students from underrepresented backgrounds. The program involves a one-day field trip to KID Museum, where students participate in project-based learning. Guided by experienced Maker Educators and supported by Georgetown Lombardi research mentors, students explore concepts in bio-tinkering, biological sciences, and cancer biology. This immersive experience is aligned with Georgetown Lombardi's mission to engage the community in addressing cancer priorities.
The program is designed for elementary-age youth.
The program is free for eligible schools. Round-trip bus transportation is also provided at no cost.

The program includes a one-day "Bio-Tinkering Workshop" at KID Museum where students engage in activities like Cardboard Sun Structures, Microscope Making, Immune Response Coding, and an Environmental Biology Case Study, learning about biology, health, and cancer prevention.
The program aims to inspire students from diverse backgrounds to consider future careers in science and medicine by providing engaging, accessible STEM and cancer research experiences.
