Religion in Society MA ('with' degree)
The Religion in Society MA (Hons) is an undergraduate degree where you study Religion in Society as part of a broader Honours degree, combining it with another subject from the Faculty of Arts. This program focuses on how religion is practiced, used, and understood in various contemporary societies worldwide. It is ideal for students interested in a diverse range of Arts subjects who want to understand the function of religion in Western and non-Western contexts, its impact on politics, history, philosophy, anthropology, and sociology.
No prior knowledge of religion is required. You will explore compulsory modules covering Theology, World Religions, the Bible, and Religious practices in your first three years. These foundational modules prepare you for more advanced study in your final year. Alongside Religion in Society, you will also take modules in your chosen second subject and potentially a third subject in your first year. This flexible modular system allows for in-depth study and exploration.
Teaching involves lectures and small-group tutorials in the early years, with an increasing emphasis on independent study, research, and seminar participation at Honours level. Assessments are a mix of coursework and examinations, with coursework forming at least 50% of the assessment at Honours level. Feedback on assessments is typically provided within three weeks to aid your learning.
